About Vaigai Oil Mills

Three generations of cold-pressed oil on Govindhan Street, K.Pudur – and a promise to keep oil the way it was.

Our Story

Named After The River That Feeds Madurai

The Vaigai river has watered the fields around Madurai for as long as anyone can remember – groundnut, sesame, coconut and palmyra all grow along its banks. We named our mill after it because that is where our oil begins: with farmers we know, in soil we understand.

Vaigai Oil Mills is a family mill now in its third generation. It began as a neighbourhood chekku, the kind every Tamil town once had, where families brought their own seeds and left with fresh oil. Mr. Kajamohaideen carried the mill forward through the years when refined oils and supermarkets nearly wiped that tradition out – he kept pressing.

Today his son, Mr. Kaleel Rahman, runs the mill the same way: wooden chekkus, oil left to settle overnight, cloth filtering, and most of it still sold to neighbours who walk in with a can. This website simply lets the rest of Tamil Nadu – and India – buy the same oil.

What We Stand For

Four Promises On Every Bottle

Cold Pressed, Always

Every drop comes from a slow wooden chekku, never a high-speed steel expeller.

One Ingredient

Groundnut is groundnut. Sesame is sesame. Nothing added except karuppatti in our traditional variety.

Farmer First

Seeds bought directly from farmers in Madurai, Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli at fair prices.

Fully Transparent

FSSAI licence, batch number, packing date and nutrition facts on every label. Visit the mill any day.

How We Press

Seed To Bottle In Four Honest Steps

  1. Select & sun dry. Every sack is opened and checked. Damp or shrivelled seed is rejected.
  2. Clean. Seeds are sieved to remove stones, dust and husk.
  3. Press. 15–20 kg at a time in the wooden chekku for about an hour, below 45°C.
  4. Settle, filter, bottle. A day of rest, cloth filtering, then bottling with batch number and dates.
